One truth I’ve learned: Everybody has dealt with a huge life issue. Even kids.
Amazing, right?
I’m way too guilty of believing the tall-tale that kids have it way too easy, and in some ways they do. But that doesn’t exempt them from dealing with some major issues, such as: divorce, abortion, sexual molestation, betrayal, death, theft, making poor choices, peer pressure, and on and on.
On Monday, because of Independence Day, I visited Camp Robinson to hang out, help where I could, and just enjoy myself. This week, the camp is hosting kids aged 7-10. During the day a boy treated me to a story recounting how his mom died. He didn’t dramatize it. In fact, I don’t even think he knew how, but the story was heartbreaking. Simply put, at 27 years old, his mom fainted and never woke up. Inside, I felt terrible for the boy. Outside, I didn’t know what to say except the few words that God gave to me.
Don’t tell me that kids have it easy. They don’t.
We should be praying for and helping them.
